Check your breaker panel first. If the breaker trips again immediately after resetting, stop — there is an electrical fault that needs a licensed technician.
Short Cycling (Turns On & Off Rapidly)

- Dirty air filter restricting airflow
- Failing compressor
Short cycling puts extreme wear on the compressor. If filter replacement doesn't resolve it, call a technician — continued short cycling can destroy the compressor.
Unusual Noises

Check the thermostat
Confirm it's set to COOL, the temperature is below the current room temp, and the fan is set to AUTO (not ON). Replace batteries if the display is dim.
Inspect the air filter
A clogged filter is the single most common cause of AC problems. If it's gray and matted, replace it. In Florida, filters should be changed every 30–60 days.
Check the circuit breaker
Find the AC breaker in your panel. If it's tripped (middle position), flip it fully off then back on. If it trips again, stop and call a technician.
Inspect the outdoor unit
Make sure the condenser (outdoor unit) is running. Clear any debris — leaves, grass clippings — from around it. The unit needs 2 feet of clearance on all sides.
Check the condensate drain
Find the PVC drain line near the air handler. If it's clogged, water will back up and trigger the float switch, shutting the system off. You can try flushing it with distilled vinegar.
Call a professional
If none of the above resolves the issue, the problem is inside the system — refrigerant, electrical, or mechanical. This requires a licensed HVAC technician.
When to stop troubleshooting: If you smell burning, hear hissing, see ice on the unit, or the breaker trips repeatedly — turn the system off and call us. These are signs of electrical faults or refrigerant leaks that require a licensed technician.
