Why Isn’t My Air Conditioner Keeping My Home Cool?

Monday, November 14th, 2016

When you live in as warm as a climate as we do, chances are that you use your air conditioning system almost year round. That’s a lot of work to put it through, and naturally—even if you’ve had it maintained properly every year—something can eventually go wrong. One repair issue we get calls about fairly often is that an air conditioner isn’t keeping a home cool enough.

There are a number of different reasons this might be happening. One possibility is that the system was incorrectly sized upon installation to begin with. This is why it is imperative that you only trust professionals to perform the installation. But this isn’t the only reason your AC may be malfunctioning.

Does Your Ductless Cooling System Need Repair?

Monday, October 17th, 2016

Ductless mini-split systems are a great option for homes throughout Florida, both for their cooling capabilities as well as heating. However, it’s important to remember that just like any other home comfort appliance, they are subjected to the same potential issues.

Ductless system problems cannot always be prevented, however by understanding what different signs mean, you can be prepared should something go wrong with your system. Read on to learn about a couple of the biggest signs that your ductless cooling system is in need of repair.

Ice Development

There’s a common misconception that seeing some sort of ice development on your air conditioner is normal. After all, its job is to cool, right? Unfortunately, this can be a dangerous belief. Ice on your ductless system during the cooling season is almost always going to be a sign of an evaporator coil problem. If this coil is not kept clear of dirt and debris, then it can malfunction and freeze the condensate that forms on it during its operation.

This ice buildup disables your evaporator coil, as it’s not able to absorb heat from your indoor air. This ice needs to be professionally removed—as opposed to chipped away by the homeowner, which can cause more damage—as soon as possible to prevent permanent warping. Whether you actually see ice on your system or notice that your ductless system is not providing as much cooling power as usual, you need to give the professionals a call.

Do You Need to Replace Your Air Conditioner?

Monday, September 5th, 2016

With fall “officially” right around the corner, many homeowners throughout the country are starting to consider scheduling maintenance for their heating systems. However in our communities, we’re still relying pretty heavily on our cooling systems! Hopefully you haven’t had any trouble with yours this season. If you have though, it may be time to consider if you need a new one.

In general, a well maintained air conditioning system can last 10-15 years, potentially even longer depending on its efficiency. But no system lasts forever of course, and there are some strong signs to watch out for that your AC may be reaching the end of its lifespan. Keep reading to learn more about these signs.

A Rise in Your Monthly Bills

Running your HVAC system actually accounts for the majority of your energy usage, and typically costs more money than any other system in your home. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that your heating and cooling bills can make up half of your utility costs.

Keeping this in mind, you want to ensure that your cooling system is running as efficiently as it can. If you discover that you are paying more than your neighbors despite comparable use, then your system might not be running as effectively as it once was. This is indicative of an older system nearing the end of its life.
